WE agree with the Free Press Initiative (FPI) Executive Director Joan Chirwa who has expressed deep concern over Ministry of Information and Media Permanent Secretary Thabo Kawana’s remarks that his government will go after media houses that will allow individuals to promote hatred and disunity. Madam Chirwa is right that PS Kawana’s statement poses a threat to media freedom. When we heard Mr Kawana speaking, we were reminded of the famous George Orwell book “Animal Farm”. In that book, the animals that took over the Manor Farm manipulated the rules of governance to suit their interests.
