The C5 Police have arrested four suspects who have been behind the spate of robberies and theft from motor vehicles around shopping malls.

In the latest robbery, the four suspects identified as Charles Mpeuka, Aswell Mwape, Masiku Phiri and Chewe Sichilima broke into a woman’s car at Oxygen Gym along Leopards Hill Road on Tuesday around 16:00hrs.

According to a CCTV footage captured at the gym, the suspects, who were driving a Nissan X-Trail registration number BAC 3950, trailed the female victim and followed her to the gym where they parked their vehicle in front of hers.

Further, the CCTV footage showed how the suspects executed the robbery, with one of them getting inside the gym to survey, while two others remained in the car as one broke one of the car doors.

After tampering with the door, the suspects drove further within the gym premises and advanced near the lady’s vehicle where they stole various items before driving off.

And police spokesperson Esther Katongo confirmed the development in a statement, stating that the suspects got away with US $1,000 cash and a brown gym bag.

“Police in Lusaka have arrested four suspects for the offense of theft from motor vehicle, which occurred on December 3, 2019, between 16:00 hours and 16:20 hours at Oxgen Gym along Leopard Hill road. The suspects are alleged to have broken into a motor vehicle, Honda CRV registration number BAJ 727 and stole US $1,000 out of which only US $100 was recovered and a brown bag. The suspects were driving a Nissan X-trail registration number BAC 3950. Further investigations led to more recoveries of various items stolen from motor vehicles parked at three different shopping malls among them Samsung tablets, Wi-Fi gadgets and clothes. The recovered items have been identified by owners,” stated Katongo.

And Katongo stated that police had impounded the vehicle while the suspects were detained in custody.
