Police in Eastern Province have retrieved the two school girls who were abducted by Nyau dancers in Chief Mafuta’s area on Saturday.
Eastern Province Deputy Commissioner of Police Sharon Zulu confirmed this during a media briefing at her office, Tuesday.
Zulu said Police moved in yesterday after receiving a report of abduction through Mugubudu Police Post, by parents of the affected girls.
“Our officers have managed to retrieve the two young girls who were abducted by the Nyau dancers on Saturday. They have been given back to their parents and are in good health,” Zulu said.
She indicated that a male suspect, Isaac Sakala, believed to be the master mind, had since been picked to help police with further investigations.
Meanwhile, Zulu said it was believed that the girls were not subjected to any form of abuse but that that they were kept safe.
And in a separate interview, Chief Chanje of the Chewa speaking people expressed happiness that the girls had finally been retrieved.
He however appealed to the Police to ensure that they bring all the suspects to book so that it serves as a warning to would be offenders.
The Chief also cautioned members of Gule Wamukulu to desist from taking the law into their own hands.
