THE Human Rights Commission (HRC) has condemned the harassment and physical attacks against some independent parliamentary candidates during the filing of nominations in selected districts. The Commission says the country risks experiencing further violations during the August polls if the police fail to ensure impartial legal action against perpetrators of violence. Meanwhile, Transparency International Zambia (TI-Z) has urged political parties to take steps to de-escalate tensions by ensuring that aspiring candidates can exercise their democratic rights without fear.
