PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema says citizens should vote for him if they want freedom to continue.

President Hichilema has assured farmers of more seed and fertilizer support, adding that government plans to open a mine in Chavuma to create jobs for young people.

Speaking during a community engagement in Chavuma, Thursday, President Hichilema said Zambia would be better if people continued voting for UPND.

β€œYou know how we suffered under those who were in government at the time, you know how if you travelled from here to Lusaka and you wore a UPND uniform, you got beaten at intercity in Lusaka. Today you are walking free, no one is beating you in Lusaka, you are walking free [and] this is what your vote has done for yourself and for the people of Chavuma and Northwestern. Today you are walking freely, you voted for HH Bally in 2021, you gave yourself freedom and I thank you for your vote. The issue is that going forward, do you want to go back to violence in the markets, in bus stops or you want the freedom you have today? What do you want? Choose. You want to go back to violence or you want to enjoy the freedom you have now going forward, what do you want? Let me see the hands of those who want freedom to continue, if you want freedom to continue you must vote for HH,” President Hichilema said.

β€œYou must vote for the UPND councillors, UPND district chairman and UPND member of parliament and this President on the 13th of August 2026 so that your freedom can be retained. All the problems we have had in the past, we are solving them now; improving the economy, improving debt. Let us continue with the good things, don’t go back there, yesterday was bad. Today under UPND because of your vote, it is getting better, tomorrow will continue getting better if you vote correctly on the 13th of August 2026. I think I can talk and talk, the message is here; yesterday before we formed government, Zambia was difficult, it was bad and there was no development. Zambia today, there is development under the UPND government, Zambia tomorrow will be better if you continue voting for UPND. Now, I know Mr Peter Chanda’s party has some candidates here, now Peter Chanda is working with HH here, so all his candidates are supposed to support the UPND candidates”.

He stressed that the President cannot work alone, urging citizens to vote for the full UPND β€œchain” on August 13.

β€œI love you so much, if you open my heart you’ll see a lot of love for you. So, all of us who love each other must do one thing and I’m saying going forward there is no way the President can work alone. President HH needs councillors, council chairpersons, [he] needs members of parliament. So, on the 13th of August we are voting for a chain, we are voting for a suit. We want to bring more seed and fertilizer for our farmers here. I know that you don’t know but I’m telling you that here in Chavuma, you see these hills, there are minerals; we want to open a mine here so that we can create more jobs for our young people. Each one of you must find five to 10 other voters, on the 13th of August, you take them to the polling station to vote for UPND. Hakainde Hichilema can lose by one vote, so every vote matters,” said President Hichilema.
