FORMER ZCCM-IH chief executive officer Dr Pius Kasolo has described government’s target to increase copper production to 3 million tonnes in the next 10 years as too optimistic. In an interview, Dr Kasolo, however, pointed out that copper production could increase to 1.5 million tonnes in the next five years. “I always tell people… the three [million] tonnes, for you to project where you are going to be, you have to have certain reserves. Of which you say ‘if this reserve [is] to be mined, we are going to have that’. But whoever created that [it] is just speculation, don’t even think about it. What I am seeing is that there will be more copper on stream. I am reckoning...
