GOVERNMENT has disclosed that in 2024, the mining sector recorded 98 accidents with 31 being fatal. Mines Minister Paul Kabuswe has revealed that in the period under review, his ministry recorded a 49.96 per cent increase in non-tax revenue collection. Addressing the media, Wednesday, Kabuswe attributed the rise in mine accidents to an increase in illegal mining activities. “Despite awareness campaigns conducted in the various mines, there was an increase in reportable accidents in the year 2024 compared to 2023. In 2024, 98 accidents were reported compared to 43 recorded in 2023 with fatalities being 31 and 19 respectively.
