A 34-year-old man has appeared in the Lusaka Magistrates’ Court for allegedly raping an 87-year-old woman at her house.
And the victim’s younger sister has testified that her sister sustained some cuts on her private parts after being raped.
In this matter, Habwizu Moonga of Kalasa village is facing one count of rape.
It is alleged that on January 16, 2019, the accused had unlawful carnal knowledge of a woman without her consent in Kalasa village.
When the matter came up before Lusaka magistrate Sheila Mweene for trial, Tuesday, the victim’s younger sister Mary Mweetwa, 79, narrated to the court how her partially blind sister was allegedly raped.
Mweetwa told the court that on the material day, she went to the field early in the morning and left the victim at home.
She said when she returned, she was told that her sister had been sexually abused by Moonga.
“Between 10:00 and 11:00hours, I heard children calling me and asking me to go home. When I went back home, I found people around the the house. I asked what happened and they told me that my older sister has been sexually abused by Moonga who was at the time tied because he wanted to flee,” Mweetwa narrated.
She disclosed that at the time, the victim was crying and complaining of pain on her genitals.
Mweetwa said when she conferred with her sister, she was told that she had been raped by Moonga.
She added that the victim also told her that during the act, Moonga pushed her on the ground and undressed her.
“She told me that Moonga held her two hands, pushed her to the ground and raped her,” Mweetwa said.
She said the victim was rushed to hospital where doctors confirmed that she had been raped since her genitals had some cuts.
The matter was reported to police and Moonga was arrested.
In cross examination, the accused had nothing.
