Zesco United defender David Owino captained Kenya in today’s away friendly against Mozambique.
Owino stood in for Tottenham Hotspurs midfielder Victor Wanyama for the Harambee Stars’ September friendly.
Wanyama withdrew from the friendly outing due to fitness issues following his recent recovery from a pre-season injury.
Owino is one of four Kenya call-ups campaigning in the FAZ Super Division called-up to face Zambia’s 2019 AFCON Group K qualifier opponents who beat Chipolopolo 1-0 in Ndola on June 10.
He was one of three Zesco players on Kenya duty together with striker Jesse Were and midfielder Anthony Akumu.
Promoted side Buildcon also has two players on Kenya duty.
Striker John Makwatta and midfielder Cliffton Miheso were also in the Kenya travelling party to Maputo.
However, the five players will not feature in the September 4 away friendly against Togo in Morocco because that match is exclusively for the home-based team who are preparing to host the 2018 CHAN tournament in January that Zambia has qualified for.
The Kenya CHAN team drew 1-1 with Mauritania in Morocco on August 29.
