Zesco united football club yesterday handed a total blackout to Zanaco with an ending that saw the bankers fail to afford a point or goal to their coffers in week 27 of the FAZ/MTN super league games.
Team Yaziko boys are now 7points above second-placed army side Green Buffaloes that has 56 points will have to collect a maximum 3 points against Forest Rangers to cut the deficit.
Enoch Sabumukama gave Zesco a lead with his fifth-minute strike while the Kenyan international Jesse Were doubled the lead in the 57th minute in second half.
Zanaco doubled its attacking spirit but to no success as the game got into its final throes without a point for them.
Lazarous Kambole scored a clincher to make it 3-0 (full time) in the second minute of added time.
Zesco united coach George Lwandamina said he was pleased with the result and was looking forward to collecting more maximum points.
“I’m very happy that we have managed to collect three points and the boys showed from the start that they wanted to win. We would have scored more goals but we only managed three and it is not so shabby,” said Lwandamina.
Coach of the losing side Numba Mumamba said his side could have done better than not securing a point or goal to themselves.
“We were supposed to utilise every scoring chance we created and defended more efficiently but we failed. Maybe it was not just our day and I hope we do better in the remaining games,” noted Mumamba.
In other games, Arrows under new management pierced another 1-0 against Nkwazi while Kabwe Warriors suffered another loss in a row against high-spirited Buildcon. The clubs are bound to keep treading standings as unpredictable results are being collected in ways that are unlikely.
