Zesco FC beat Asante Kotoko on Sunday by two goals to one, a win which aided fellow Zambian side Nkana to book a quarter final spot in the CAF confederations cup.
Zesco played the match for formality’s sake as they were already knocked out of the tournament with a match to go.
The Zambian champions’ win against the Ghanaian heavy weights assisted the other Zambian club, Nkana FC to proceed to the next stage of the competition.
Nkana needed just a draw to qualify to the quarter final stage but were however beaten by 4 goals to one by Sudanese side Al Hilal.
The defeat would have condemned Nkana out of the competition had Kotoko won against Zesco united at Levy Mwanawasa stadium.
Asante Kotoko started the scoring just two minutes into the second half but Zesco equalised five minutes later through Jesse Were. The Zambian super league side scored again in the 56th minute to lead for the first time in the game.
That lead was enough to aid Nkana who struggled away to Al Hilal.
Al Hilal have qualified as group leaders with 11 points while Nkana will join them on second with 9 points.
Kotoko who have been knocked out are at 7 points together with already knocked out Zesco.
CAF will hold a draw this week to create fixtures to the next round
