President Edgar says the U-17 national soccer team’s triumph at the just ended COSAFA Cup tournament in Malawi has propelled Zambia’s image to the soccer fraternity across Africa.
And President Edgar Lungu has implored the Football Association of Zambia to nurture the boys and ensure their skill attracts interest from acclaimed football clubs worldwide.
The Head of State said in a statement issued by his Special Assistant for Press and Public Relations Isaac Chipampe that the boys should keep working hard.
“On behalf of my Government, the people of Zambia and on my own behalf, I wish to congratulate the Under-17 National team for the excellent performance. I urge you boys to be at your best behaviour if you are to continue recording success,” President Lungu said.
He also congratulated the Zambia National Team for qualifying for the 2020 Cameroon African Nations Championship (CHAN) finals on Saturday.
President Lungu encouraged the boys to continue working hard and always aim higher if they were to maintain their excellent performance.

The President further appealed to the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) to ensure that the boys are nurtured so that they maintain their form and skill to attract opportunities at world acclaimed teams.
“…However, the President is saddened by the negative attitude exhibited by the soccer fans towards the national team…Soccer fans should always be there to boost the morale of the team, not to be antagonistic against them whether they won or lost,” stated Chipampe on behalf of President Lungu.
