UNITED Party for National Development (UPND) spokesperson Charles Kakoma says any member is free to challenge party leader Hakainde Hichilema at the general conference.

In a brief interview, Kakoma said so far, there hadn’t been any submissions to challenge Hichilema.

“Our general conference is scheduled to take place on January 22nd to 23rd. It will be two to three days. Those who want to challenge Hakainde Hichilema are free to do so but I don’t expect any wrangles because it is a normal election, people apply and the delegates will vote. All they need is to apply. So far there is no one who has applied to stand as president or to challenge HH,” said Kakoma.

“We are expecting to follow the health guidelines in terms of social distancing, wearing masks, and washing hands. So the area where we will have this conference will be full of those facilities to enable us to conduct the conference in a healthy environment. The venue is not yet found, that is one thing we are still looking at because of this Covid, we want a bigger venue which can be able to accommodate all delegates to ensure that there will be social distancing.”
