THE Public Accounts Committee has heard that Mika Motors Ltd was awarded a contract worth over US$1 million to provide clearing and shipping services for 387 government vehicles despite it not indicating that it had any experience in that field. The committee further heard that Mika Motors’ sister company, Mikalile Trading, on the other hand, submitted that it had experience in supplying furniture, tyres and batteries. And former Ministry of Home Affairs head of procurement Kampamba Mutala has told the committee that the Ministry had no choice but to direct bid Mika Motors because it was an emergency as the goods had already left China.
