THE Zambia Congress of Trade Union (ZCTU) says couples applying to be reunited with their spouses in the civil service should not only demand to be transferred to urban areas. ZCTU Secretary General Joy Beene has advised workers against exploiting the government’s policy to reunite couples to flee rural arrears where their services are also needed. Civil Service Commission Chairperson Peter Mumba recently disclosed that over 1,000 couples have so far been reunited in the civil service. He, however, said the process was slow because government was trying to balance the workforce in the rural and urban areas as most couples were applying to join their spouses in the urban areas.
