LABOUR and Social Security Minister Brenda Tambatamba says employers must seek guidance from the Labour Commissioner’s office before laying off workers due to reduced productivity caused by the current energy crisis. In an interview, Tambatamba said employers should not make decisions to scale down their workforce without first informing her ministry. “I want to send this strong message to the employers out there that we have been social partners since independence, we sit together and put laws, regulations and policies in place. Those are where you get the guidance to those in need of a particular intervention, including emergency interventions.
