YESTERDAY we pointed out that former president Edgar Lungu is making hay out of the dead. This was after he blamed the UPND government and made a pronouncement that the late former minister and FDD opposition leader Edith Nawakwi was neglected, traumatised and humiliated to her death. In our view, the former president wants to recast himself as the defender of justice and humanity at a time when a respected figure’s passing has captured the nation’s attention. We found it to be a cynically calculated move that seeks to manipulate public emotion for political benefit. It is the very definition of opportunism.
