A 26-year-old woman of Lusaka’s Meanwood Phase 4 has been sentenced to five years simple imprisonment for burning her three-year-old son for stealing relish.

Racheal Kauseni was jailed, Monday, upon her own admission of guilt.

Racheal was facing a charge of child assault.

She assaulted her three-year-old son by dipping his fingers in hot water after he stole relish on December 31, 2017.

The convict, who had left her son home, was agigated to find that he had eaten relish which she had prepared.

Lusaka magistrate Faides Hamaundu handed down the sentence on the convict who is seven months pregnant.

In passing the verdict, magistrate Hamaundu said her hands were tied and she could not lessen the mandatory sentence.

She told the convict to appeal against the judgement if not satisfied.
