A 31-year-old Chinsali man has committed suicide by hanging himself to avoid being arrested and sent to prison for various criminal offences he allegedly committed.

Confirming the development, Muchinga Province Police Commissioner Goldwin Phiri said the incident happened last Saturday at 13:00 hours in Mundu village of chief Nkula.

Phiri identified the deceased man as Jameson Mesenge Mwansa of Mundu village in Nkula chiefdom hanging himself in an abandoned house using a black electric wire cable.

“A telephone call was received from male Lazarous Chola aged 25 of Mundu village in chief Nkula informing the police that male Jameson Mesenge Mwansa aged 31 of the same village had committed suicide by hanging himself in a house using a black electrical wire cable,” Phiri said.

Phiri explained that police rushed to the scene and confirmed that the man who was wanted for various crimes had taken his own life.
