THE Lusaka Magistrates’ Court has convicted and sentenced a Chinese couple to a fine of K100,000 each for conveying stolen property. The court has also forfeited to the state 40 pieces of gold weighing 29.92 kilograms, valued at about K58 million, a Toyota Prado and US$200,000 belonging to the couple. Zhao Changsong, 58, and Zhao Yangjin, 45, were initially charged with five counts of fraudulent dealing with minerals, smuggling and failure to declare currency, use of vehicle for smuggling and possession of property suspected of being proceeds of crime.
