THE Electoral Commission of Zambia has launched a mass voter registration exercise, yet the turnout has been depressingly low. Many Zambians are not even aware that the exercise is taking place. This is a serious failure on the part of the Commission. ECZ has not done enough to raise public awareness or mobilise citizens to register. We have not seen posters in communities, we have not seen billboards in towns, and we have not seen any coordinated social media campaign with influencers guiding citizens on where and how to register. In 2020, when citizens were registering for the 2021 general elections, ECZ clearly announced that registration officers would be moving from one polling station to another after a few days....
