THE Zambia Statistics Agency (ZamStats) has disclosed that projected maize production for the 2025/2026 farming season is 4.9 million metric tonnes, an increase of 27.8 percent from the previous season. ZamStats Statistician General Sheila Mudenda says Central Province is expected to have the highest maize production of one million metric tonnes, with Western Province recording the lowest production at 120,028 metric tonnes. Meanwhile, Secretary to the Cabinet Patrick Kangwa says current meteorological projections indicate a higher likelihood of below-average rainfall for the 2026/2027 agricultural season, stating that there is need to prepare adequately for this.
