THE Lusaka High Court and several judicial complexes countrywide were closed yesterday, with armed police officers sealing off the premises, citing security reasons. A spot check by News Diggers! at the Lusaka High Court, Ndola High Court, and Chelston Local Court, found armed security personnel guarding the premises, which were barricaded with a yellow police tape labelled “Crime scene Do Not Cross”. In Eastern Province, the Chipata High Court was sealed off, while in Kasama, the court presmises were equally closed, bringing a halt to all court activities. The closure of judicial institutions comes at a critical time of the seven-day deadline for filing a petition against the outcome of the recent presidential election.
