A 43-year-old security officer has been dragged to court for destroying Chilanga member of parliament Maria Langa’s campaign material namely; a poster.
Victor Kahalu, of Maloni Compound, is charged with one count of destroying election campaign material, contrary to section (1) (i) (2) of the Electoral Process Act no. 35 of 2016 of the laws of Zambia.
Particulars of the offence are that Kahalu, on May 23, 2018 in Lusaka District, without lawful authority did remove and destroy an election campaign material namely; a poster showing a picture of the PF MP candidate Maria Langa.
This is said to have occurred in Maloni Compound around 17:30 hours.
It is alleged that Kahalu was apprehended by members of his community who handed him over to the police after he was seen by PF officials tearing the posters that were stuck at the back of his house.
Kahalu is said to have admitted that he tore the posters because the person who stuck them did not ask for his permission.
The matter has been allocated to Magistrate Betty Malupenga where he is expected to take plea soon.
