CHAPTER One Foundation has petitioned the Constitutional Court seeking an order to quash the Zambia Correctional Service Act No.37 of 2021 as it was assented to by the President after the dissolution of Parliament. The Foundation which is being represented by Simeza, Sangwa and Associates, has cited President Edgar Lungu as respondent in the matter arguing that his legislative authority to assent to Bills passed by the National Assembly expired after the dissolution of Parliament. They are therefore seeking a conservatory order staying the operation of the Zambia Correctional Service Act No.37 of 2021 and restoring the Prisons Act Chapter 97 of the laws until after the determination of the petition.
