Zanaco are jointed second in Group D of the 2017 CAF Champions League after holding hosts Egyptian giants Al Ahly away on Saturday night away in Alexandria.
Mumamba Numba’s side held the record 8-time African champions to a 0-0 draw to make a bright start to their debut Champions League group stage appearance.
Zanaco defended resolutely to earn a valuable away point against an Al Ahly side that was determined to erase their 2016 CAF Champions League flop.
Al Ahly failed to reach the 2016 semifinals at the expense of Zesco United and Wydad Casablanca of Morocco who finished second and first in Group A respectively last season.
And for a third game in a roll, Al Ahly were also stunned by a Zambia club after earlier losing 3-2 away against Zesco and drawing 2-2 in Suez in last year’s Group A meetings.
Meanwhile, Zanaco are now joint second of Group D with Al Ahly on 1 point each.
Wydad Casablanca of Morocco lead Group D on three points after a 2-0 home win over bottom placed Cotonsport of Cameroon on Friday night in Casablanca.
Zanaco host Wydad in Lusaka on match-day-two on May 24.
