Zambia hope to finish on a perfect 9 points in Group C when they face Costa Rica in the two sides final preliminary round pool match today at Cheonan in Jeju, South Korea.
Beston Chambeshi’s side lead on maximum 6 points and have already qualified to the May 31 last 16.
However, coach Chambeshi said he will neither treat the Costa Rica match as a formality fixture nor rest any of his star players for that matter.
“This is a tournament, we want to finish on a good note and we will take each game with a serious approach,” Chambeshi said.
“We cannot relax and we cannot chose that we shall play these players for that game. But yes, we have a reservoir of players, but it depends on how that day will be. I will see how it goes.”
And some milestones could fall if everything goes according to script.
Striker Fashion Sakala is on the verge of breaking Bernard Makufi’s FIFA U20 record of two goals that he equalled it in the 4-2 win over Iran on Wednesday.
Another win will set a 100 percent run for Zambia at the tournament if they collect their third win on the trot.
Meanwhile, Zambia’s last 16 opponents will also be decided on Sunday when the best third placed side in a tight Group F with USA (4 pts), Senegal(3pts),Saudi Arabia(3pts) and Ecuador(1pts) all battling to finish in the top two.
Argentina and Germany who finished 3rd in Group A and B respectively are in the race to face Zambia.
