Zambia National Women Football Team manager Chibwe Besa says she reckons Zambia as a football powerhouse in Southern Africa adding that the country has competed favourably at different levels of the sport on the continent.
Besa said the Total African Women football championship to be hosted by Ghana would be one of the numerous competitions that the team would be competing in and yield good results from.
She was speaking on sidelines of the tournament draws in Ghana on Sunday.
“We reckon ourselves as a football powerhouse coming from Southern Africa. There is so much at stake in this tournament and so much to put in. This means we plan to go as far as possible in this tournament and actually go home with results that would make everyone happy. Gone are the days we would be mere participants in such tournaments because women football has grown in the country,” said Besa.
Meanwhile, Chairperson of the Local Organising committee for the AWCON Freda Prempeh echoed on the talent Africa had in women football and assured visiting nations of tight security.
“This is the opportunity for Africa to sell the continent as far as talent is concerned. Women football has greatly improved the world deserves to know that the improvement has also been made in Africa. We will make sure there is tight security and excellent hospitality for each participating nation so that the tournament is enjoyable and memorable for everyone,” said Prempeh.
The tournament kicks off on November 17 and Shepolopolo is in the same group with Falcons of Nigeria that are considered African women football giants.
