Police have summoned Alliance for Community Action executive director Laura Miti to Force Headquarters.

Police Spokesperson Esther Mwaata Katongo called Miti this morning requesting her to be there before 12:00 hours today, which is the time protests against the fire tenders are scheduled to begin.

Miti confirmed this to News Diggers! in an interview.

“Yes, I am on my way there right now, Mrs Katongo, Esther Katongo called me and said I was invited for a meeting with the Deputy IG before 12,” Miti said.

Asked if the protests would go ahead as planned in case the meeting delayed, Miti replied in the affirmative saying the protest was bigger than her.

“The protest is going on, the protest is not me. It is about the citizens and it will proceed. It is not Laura, it is the citizens and we have other partners so it will go on,” said Miti.

Earlier, Police delivered a letter to Miti’s office in which they requested her to schedule the protest for another time saying they did not have adequate manpower to facilitate.

But in her reply, Miti stated that the protests could not be postponed because they were strategically scheduled for today when Minister of Finance will present the national budget.
