Southern Province Minister Edify Hamukale yesterday sustained minor injuries when the motor vehicle he was in over turned after hitting a seven-year-old boy.
Police spokesperson Esther Katongo confirmed this in a statement saying the accident occurred along Great North Road about 2km South of Kalomo town.
Katongo revealed that the vehicle the minister was in was driven by Macmillan Mwanamwale 43 years who sustained general body pains.
“There was a serious Road Traffic Accident which occurred today 21st January, 2018 around 07:50hours along Great North Road about 2km South of Kalomo town. Involved was a Toyota Land Cruiser GX registration number GRZ 733CN driven from the direction of North to South by Macmillan Mwanamwale 43 years of Show Ground area in Choma who sustained general body pains and also involved was the passenger Minister of Southern Province, Hon Hamukale Edify of River Side in Choma who sustained minor injuries,” she stated.
Katongo stated that the juvenile, who sustained a deep cut on his fore head, had been admitted to Kalomo District Hospital whereas the minister had been taken to Livingstone for further treatment.
“Also involved in the Road Traffic Accident was a male juvenile pedestrian by the name of Godbless Siachisamu aged seven years of Bridge Park in Kalomo who sustained a deep cut on the fore head and is admitted to Kalomo District Hospital. The Minister has been taken to Livingstone for further treatment. The accident occurred when the pedestrian was crossing the road from West to East hence was hit by the motor vehicle and the driver lost control of the vehicle as he was avoiding the pedestrian and then over turned,” stated Katongo.
