A 48-year-old male driver for Zambeef’s Chisamba branch, identified as Elvis Malokota, has committed suicide by hanging.
And Police in Lusaka’s Garden compound have picked up an amputated left leg of an unknown person.
In a statement, Zambia Police spokesperson Esther Katongo revealed that the suicide case happened between Dallas Farms and Chikankata turn-off on Tuesday at an unknown time.
Katongo stated that the company human resources manager at the said branch reported to police that the deceased on the material day around 08:00 hours left Chisamba, while driving a company motor vehicle DAF registration AHB 6458 (Horse) AAG 929 (trailer) to Mazabuka Zambia Sugar Estates to load molasses.
“Whilst on the way, Malokota is alleged to have parked the motor vehicle by the road side and committed suicide by hanging himself in the bush using a ratchet belt,” Katongo disclosed.
She stated that after visiting the scene, police found the body hanging to a tree.
But Katongo disclosed that before taking his life, the deceased phoned his wife and asked her to inform his employer to go and pick their vehicles and that it was the last time to hear from him.
Katongo added that the body had since been taken to Mazabuka General Hospital Mortuary.
And in another development, police in Lusaka picked up an amputated left leg of an unknown human being.
Katongo narrated that the amputated leg was discovered when officers were patrolling Garden Site Three area near the sewer ponds.
“The lower limb was found with some fresh blood and part of it was bandaged. Next to it was a black plastic and it is suspected that the discovered leg could have been wrapped on the same polythene after amputation and later disposed it off. The leg has been taken to UTH mortuary for custody, while investigations have been instituted,” stated Katongo.
