NATIONAL Democratic Congress (NDC) leader Chishimba Kambwili says President Edgar Lungu’s decision to fire David Mabumba is proof that government is being run like Animal Farm.
In an interview, Kambwili noted that other ministers were not punished for anything.
“It’s Animal Farm, that’s what is happening. I have been saying it and the inconsistencies have continued. On mere allegation, I was fired. Kabanshi, on mere allegation, she was fired. Chitalu Chilufya, not fired. Chitotela, not fired. Mabumba, fired. Lawrence Sichalwe, on a similar case of pornography, not fired. So it’s Animal Farm, who you know, who you eat with, that’s the order of the day and it is very, very unfortunate. I think people need to be treated fairly,” said Kambwili.
Mabumba had appeared in an obscene video that went viral last Tuesday in which he was seen fondling with his private parts during what appeared to be a WhatsApp video call with an unknown person.
On Wednesday, Special Assistant to the President for Press and Public Relations Isaac Chipampe announced in a statement that President Edgar Lungu had with immediate effect terminated the appointment of David Mabumba as General Education Minister and replaced him with Dennis Wanchinga.
Chipampe said the President in his termination letter to Mabumba, thanked him for the service which he rendered.
“In exercise of the powers vested in me under the provisions of Article 92 (2) (e) read with Article 270 of the Constitution of Zambia and Section 26 of the interpretations of the General Provisions Act Cap 2 of the Laws of Zambia, I hereby terminate your appointment as Minister of General Education. I wish to thank you for the service you rendered to the Government of the Republic of Zambia and to wish you well in your future endeavours” stated President Lungu in the letter.
