VICE-PRESIDENT Inonge Wina says she has been motivated to apply for a position in the ruling party’s Central Committee to help the party grow with enhanced solidarity.

The Vice-President, however, ducked the question on whether she was still available to continue as running mate for the PF presidential candidate.

Speaking at the party’s secretariat shortly after submitting her application, Wina said she was motivated to continue serving the party so that the concerns of the vulnerable could be heard.

“Thanks to all the members of the central committee who are witnesses to this historic occasion. My visit to your office this afternoon is to deposit my application for membership in the central committee. I am a very proud applicant to be a member of the central committee because I want to continue to grow the party as well as to make a contribution to the long life of PF. Being a PF member is a commitment. In my view it’s a life commitment because Mr [Michael] Sata, the late, established this party to ensure that the concerns of the most vulnerable in society are taken into account. And it is for this reason that I am ever motivated to save this party. And I am ever committed to ensuring that the party unity is maintained and party discipline is enhanced. Cohesiveness, solidarity all this is enhanced,” she said.

When asked whether she was willing to continue as running mate, Wina said “that is why I am here to apply so that I can vie for a position in the central committee.”

“So, secretary general, we commend you and your team for holding the party together and for ensuring that the party structure are held in check and for dispensing the obligations that the central committee placed on your shoulders. That is why I am here this afternoon. I took up the challenge and I have decided that I should continue to serve my party in the central committee. And it is for this reason that I am here this afternoon so that I can vie for a position this afternoon.”

Meanwhile, PF Secretary General Davies Mwila announced that the party had received only one application, from President Edgar Lungu, for the position of party president.
