THREE people have died on the spot in a road traffic accident which occurred along Great North Road opposite Kambwese farm on Monday.

In an interview, Monday, Central Province deputy commissioner of police Donald Mwandila said the accident, which involved three vehicles, occurred after one of the vehicles tried to improperly overtake and hit into the second vehicle’s right side trailer tyres.

“Regarding the fatal road traffic accident which occurred on Monday 08/11/2021 at 10:30 hrs opposite Kambwese farm along the Great North road. Involved was Male Tryson Banda aged 38 of Lusaka who was driving a Toyota dyna registration no BAM 2989 from South to North, and Male Ilunga Mulamba aged 43 of Lubumbashi DRC who was driving a Mercedes Benz truck registration no 6112 AJ 05 and Trailers numbers 5664 AJ 05, 5665 AJ 05 from North to South and also involved was M/Musa Aboutwalibu Mvamba aged 34 of Dar Sa Laam in Tanzania who was driving a Mercedes Benz registration no T 768DDU, T 890 ADZ from North to South,” he said.

“[The] accident happened when the first vehicle was improperly overtaking and went to hit into the second vehicle right side trailer tyres, and he further lost control of the vehicle by going to the Eastern side off the road and in the process, the third vehicle also swerved to Eastern side avoiding head on collision and ended up colliding and clipping on top of the first vehicle.”

He said the bodies of the deceased had since been deposited in Liteta hospital mortuary.

“The driver from first vehicle Tryson Banda and his two passengers Male Imran Mullan aged 28, of Chinika area in Lusaka, and M/ Able other names not well known of Lusaka died on spot after sustaining fatal injuries, and the bodies are lying in Liteta hospital mortuary. The second and third drivers came out unhurt. The first vehicle was extensively damaged, the second vehicle had its four right trailer tyres damaged while the third vehicle had its front part and fuel tank damaged,” said Mwandila.
