FORMER education minister Michael Kaingu says requiring private companies to hire only those whose qualifications have been verified by the Zambia Qualifications Authority (ZAQA) will be restrictive. On Monday, ZAQA announced that it had introduced a new law that prohibits employers in both the public and private sectors from hiring anyone whose qualifications had not been verified by the Authority. The Authority said the provision also prevents higher education institutions and those registered under the TEVET Act from enrolling individuals into any programme of study without first verifying their qualifications.
