THE Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) says its role is to emphasise that the law does not allow any political party to use state resources to campaign for the benefit of any party or candidate. And ECZ says although planning several by-elections is challenging, it gives the commission an opportunity to train staff ahead of the 2026 general elections. Recently, the Churches Monitoring Group (CCMG) urged ECZ to work with the Secretary to Cabinet to ensure that all ministers involved in election activities, particularly as members of the campaign team, should take unpaid leave.
