UPND Deputy National Spokesperson Elvis Nkandu, now says President Hakainde Hichilema never promised to reduce the price of mealie meal to K50 during the 2021 general election campaign. According to him, that promise was made in 2016, and had Zambians voted for President Hichilema then, he would have delivered on it because the economic conditions at the time were different. But statements like these expose a deeper problem in our political culture: the tendency of those in power to shift blame, deflect accountability, and gaslight citizens who dare to raise concerns. What Minister Nkandu is essentially saying is that if Zambians are struggling to afford mealie meal today, they have only themselves to blame for not voting UPND into office...
