Vice-President Inonge Wina has been evacuated to South Africa for medical treatment following a heart condition, Health Minister Dr Chitalu Chilufya has revealed.

Speaking at a joint press briefing with acting Secretary to the Cabinet Patrick Kangwa, Dr Chilfya said Vice-President Wina’s condition was stable, but she needed a thorough check-up in South Africa, as facilitated by President Lungu.

“I would like to inform the nation that we had a health encounter with Her Honour Mrs Inonge Mutukwa Wina the Vice-President of the Republic of Zambia, and it is prudent that the nation is kept informed. Last night the Vice-President was evacuated to the University Teaching Hospital where a medical team examined and treated her for a heart condition. His Excellency the President of the Republic of Zambia Mr Edgar Chagwa Lungu visited Mrs Wina last night and commended the medical team for a well done job in managing the vice-president,” said Dr Chilufya.

“And now to consolidate Mrs Wina’s scheduled review for the previous health challenge faced in the recent past, and the short recuperating period, the president has facilitated the evacuation of Mrs Inonge Wina to South Africa for a thorough medical check up. Mrs Wina is stable and in very high spirit.”
