A renowned Luanshya farmer John Enwright who government was planning to engage in the export of goats to Saudi Arabia has died in a road traffic accident.
Copperbelt police commissioner Charity Katanga confirmed the accident in an interview today.
She said the accident happened around 10:10 hours as Enwright was driving from north to south along Luanshya road.
Enwright is the proprietor of Riverndale Farm in Luanshya which is into bee keeping, goats and chicken rearing.
“The accident happened along the Ndola-Luanshya road near Fisenge blind center when Evaristo Kunda, 38, of Mpatamatu who was driving a truck registration number ACL 9063 failed to keep to his side. The truck which was moving from south to north rammed into Enwright’s vehicle, a Toyota Harrier registration number ACM 7896 causing extensive damage,” Katanga said.
“Enwright was in the company of his wife Kendra Enwright, 66, who has suffered head injuries and suspected internal injuries.”
She said Mrs Enwright was admitted to Luanshya Mine Hospital while the deceased’s body was in the mortuary pending post-mortem.
And Livestock and Fisheries Minister Michael Katambo has expressed shock at the death of Enwright.
“It is shocking to hear this sad news. You know when the first lady madam Ester Lungu came to visit the farm this year. We talked about engaging him in the supply of Goats to Saudi Arabia. Its shocking to hear the news of his death,” Katambo said.
