IS the traditional marriage counsellors’ syllabus outdated? Are the Bana Chimbusa contributing to rising cases of depression in women? Well, Dr George Tafuna, a trained psychotherapist from Chainama Hills Mental Hospital, thinks now is the time to change the syllabus because “teaching outdated notions of submission to modern women who work and have financial independence creates issues”. Dr Tafuna also notes that some parents don’t spend enough time with their children, subjecting them to influence from random people and social media, a situation which is contributing to the rise in substance abuse among adolescents.
