The Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA) has called on all road users to eliminate risky behaviors on the roads saying it seeks to deliver an accident free 55th Independence anniversary.
In a statement issued by RTSA head public relations Fredrick Mubanga, Monday, RTSA Acting Director and Chief Executive Gladwell Banda stated that the agency would work with various stakeholders to achieve this.
“Mr. Banda revealed that the RTSA will work with various stakeholders, including the National Road Fund Agency (NRFA), Road Development Agency (RDA), Insurance Firms, Petroleum Firms, Churches, Local Communities, Traditional leaders, World Bank, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the media and all key players in the road transport sector, adding that the RTSA will go beyond its usual business and efforts by providing road users with educational information that will elicit citizen’s moral conscious to do the right thing while using roads. The RTSA will complement this with improved road signage and roadside enforcement,” read the statement.
“To further re-enforce these efforts, the RTSA is seeking the cooperation of all road users and all Zambian citizens in general in eliminating risky behavior and make a personal commitment to Zero accidents leading up to Zambia’s 55th Independence Anniversary and beyond by making a promise to: Not cause an accident today and do harm to oneself or others; Be kind, patient and have regard for all road users; Not drink alcohol or use a cellphone as I drive.”
Banda stated that the Agency had deployed an all-out road safety campaign to reach out to all road users.
“The Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA) has set itself an ambitious task to deliver an ‘Accident Free 55th Independence Anniversary’ by seeking the cooperation all road users and Zambian citizens in general in eliminating risky behavior that results in road injuries, fatalities and loss of property. The RTSA seeks to ensure that leading up to Zambia’s 55th Independence Anniversary, no life will be lost on account of negligent behavior. The Agency has deployed an all-out road safety campaign to reach out to all road users to secure their cooperation in mitigating accidents. Mr. Banda has wished all road users an ‘Accident Free 55th Independence Anniversary’,” read the statement.
