      CHIEF government spokesperson Chushi Kasanda says Zambia’s attainment of a single-digit inflation rate gives credence that UPND has set the country on a clear path of economic growth. And Kasanda says it’s just a matter of time before Zambians can begin to witness cheaper prices once the economic gains recorded begin trickling down to the general populace.     • Indeed, the corrupt can’t fight corruption. Lifestyle audits should start at ACC and DEC

      ANTI-Corruption Commission (ACC) Board Chairperson Musa Mwenye State Counsel says the Commission will establish a directorate which will facilitate an internal investigation of staff members because corrupt people cannot be entrusted with the responsibility of fighting corruption. Mr Mwenye says it is only logical that the institution that is responsible for ridding graft in the country is first cleaned up. Musa MWENYE: “For us, that is the priority, you can’t have corrupt people fighting corruption, it is absolutely unacceptable. So yesterday, we met as a Commission Board and the first thing we did was to resolve that we establish a directorate of internal investigations. Who will investigate me if you have a complaint against me? So we need a specialised directorate within the ACC whose only job is to investigate us and that was resolved yesterday. We need to clean up [the] house, we need to look at the ACC itself and we are committed to it. Having said that, yes of course there could be a few problems with some staff members but the vast majority of the members of staff have worked under very difficult conditions and have been committed to this cause. So, it is not everyone within the ACC that is a problem. The bottom line is that we can’t have a situation where investigators are themselves perceived to be corrupt. We ourselves resolved to establish a directorate of internal investigation so that we can have people within the commission who are perceived to be errant, investigated, even myself included. If there is any view that I may be errant, I should be looked at because we all have to be transparent in fighting corruption. Economic.......
