THE Chipata High Court has upheld the election of PF’s Jonathan Daka as member of parliament for Chadiza Constituency. This is a matter in which UPND’s Yamikani Phiri challenged Daka’s election on grounds that it was marred by massive vote manipulation, distribution of food on the voting day, violence and involvement of foreign voters. When the matter came up for judgement, Judge Mweenda Zimba dismissed the petition on grounds that Phiri failed to provide required evidence that indeed there was manipulation of votes. “There is no independent evidence produced by the petitioner to show that the first respondent manipulated the election results,” Judge Zimba said.
