The Lusaka Magistrates’ Court has convicted and sentenced a 41-year-old man of Lusaka’s Chilenje township to 30 days, simple imprisonment, for assaulting his 31-year-old wife. The 41-year-old man assaulted his wife after she went to his workplace to ask for money to buy candles because their child was having difficulty sleeping in the dark. Magistrate Mutinta Mwenya told the convict, Emmanuel Mulenga, that although he paid lobola, he had no right to harm his wife, adding that real men don’t inflict pain on women. Mulenga was charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
