THE Economic and Financial Crimes Court, High Court Division, has forfeited 43,903 illegally harvested Mukula logs to the state, as they are tainted property. This is in a matter where Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Gilbert Phiri had asked the court to forfeit the 43,903 Mukula timber logs to the state. Phiri was seeking a non-conviction-based forfeiture pursuant to Sections 29 and 32 of the Forfeiture of Proceeds of Crime Act.
