THE Lusaka Magistrate’s Court has convicted Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Kasonde Mwenda and 13 others for unlawful assembly, sentencing them to three months’ simple imprisonment. However, Magistrate Amy Masoja Chilangwa suspended the entire sentence. Magistrate Chilangwa also acquitted Mwenda on a separate charge of escaping from lawful custody. In count one, it was alleged that on March 10, 2023, in Lusaka, the accused, with intent to carry out a common purpose, conducted themselves in a manner likely to cause those in the neighborhood to fear they would commit a breach of peace, or that their assembly would provoke others to do so.
