RIGHT now, girls aged as young as 14 are indulging in sexual intercourse, getting pregnant and delivering babies through Cesarean sections, Golden Muchemwa has revealed. Muchemwa, who is Programme Manager for Zambia National Traditional Counsellors’ Association (ZNTCA), laments that despite an increase in the number of contraceptives distributed in Eastern Province, the uptake has remained very low in that province. He also notes that there is an increase in maternal mortality rate, countrywide, of about 3.5 percent which is attributed to adolescents getting pregnant.
