A shop at Kabwata market this evening caught fire, causing panic among residents.

According to witnesses, “one of the shops was gutted, but quick action by the Fire Brigade prevented the fire from burning down the market”.

“It is a tailor’s shop number 70 that caught fire. It’s right inside the market, the cause of the fire has not yet been known but it was stopped on time,” said the witness who called News Diggers, adding that “the Fire Brigade had arrived on time to prevent it from spreading.”

Shortly after the fire incident, a power outage followed, making the situation worse as some residents feared that it could have been an electrical fault that could affect their houses.
