A pilot died this morning when a two-seater plane number 9 JYR V, white in colour, crashed.
Police spokesperson Esther Mwaata Katongo identified the pilot as Charles Rea, 65, of Kawiko area, Zambian by birth of Irish origins.
“This occurred today 05th March, 2018 at about 08 30 hours at Kawiko Airstrip in Mwinilunga District of North Western Province. The plane is reported to have crashed after the pilot lost control whilst on the runway before taking off, flew at a height of 50 meters and then crashed to the ground. The pilot died on the spot after sustaining head injuries. The body has been retrieved from the scene and taken to Kaleni Mission Hospital mortuary,” stated Katongo.
