PF Secretary General Davies Mwila says UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema should move on from the 2016 elections because results won’t change no matter how many rigging allegations he makes.
Last week, Hichilema charged that UN Country Representative Janet Rogan helped the PF rig elections.
“Earlier, I touched on a matter that when Mr Lungu was talking about foreign power, he was hosting Janet Rogan. Janet Rogan is the UN representative in our country, what is UN? Is it not according to Lungu a foreign power? So how come he was hosting a member of the UN representing UN in this country and demeaning foreign powers when one of them was being hosted by him? Can you see the parallels there?” Hichilema asked.
“Our message is that we are aware of Janet Rogans maneuvers, we are very much aware. We have been very much aware for a long time of Janet Rogan’s maneuvers. Working with the electoral commission to manipulate voter registration, to manipulate ballot paper printing in Dubai, Janet Rogan was involved in that, we are aware. We are aware that Janet Rogan is fraternizing with ministers of the PF almost on a daily basis, weekly basis. We are aware that Janet is hosting the ZCID and encouraging the ZCID to say ‘you take the lead’ so that she can participate in the manipulation of the dialogue process as she participated in the manipulation of the elections in our country. Unlike PF, we did not start shouting at Rogan.”
But Mwila told News Diggers! in an interview that results of the 2016 polls would not change no matter how many people Hichilema accused of rigging.
“No, that allegation does not hold any water. President Hakainde Hichilema knows that he lost the election. They filed in the election petition which they lost. How many times is he going to accuse people? He accuse the Electoral Commission of Zambia, he accused the police, and now the UN Representative. He should stop deceiving people, the people of Zambia already elected a president,” Mwila said.
Mwila said the upcoming by-elections would prove how unpopular the UPND was.
“The UPND should stop cheating the Zambian people. They are only holding three provinces, we are holding seven provinces. Which election can you win with three provinces? The international community declared the elections free and fair. Which rigging is he talking about? For how long are they going to remain in the opposition and keep accusing people for losing elections? And just wait for the upcoming [local government] by-elections on 24th [April], you will see they will fail to even win some of these seats. He has nothing to talk about and so he wants to be talking about elections all the time,” he said.
“Campaigns [for local government elections] are going on very well. You call me on 25th April, I will give you the results myself.”
